Nutrition therapy for diabetes entered a new phase by 1970s. There was a major health concern worldwide due to the increase in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its complications. Due to this epidemic, the prevention of cardiovascular disease in patients with T2DM received more attention than the glycemic control of patients with T1DM, leading to a greater interest in nutrition therapy.
